Aging is a natural part of our lives. At some point in that aging process, our hormones may go out of balance or decline to a point where we lose our vitality and sense of well being. This condition commonly occurs as a woman goes through perimenopause and menopause.

Mood swings, depression, sleep issues, and irregular periods are some of the signs of early perimenopause.   The more classic symptoms come later such as hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, decreased libido, vague joint pain, osteoporosis, skin changes, and weight gain. These symptoms make this period of our lives less than ideal for us and our loved ones.

Good nutrition and an exercise routine go a long way but hormonal therapy may still be appropriate.  For some women, prescription pills containing synthetic hormones may help when used with caution for a short period of time. Some women may respond better to “bioidentical” hormonal options delivered to the body via creams or oral capsules customized for you by a physician and compounding pharmacy.

These are still good options but they do not offer the consistent delivery of the hormones your body may be lacking. I believe a more consistent delivery of hormones to your body can be achieved thru a “pellet” placed under the skin. This “pellet” contains a time released "bioidentical" hormone customized to address your symptoms. I truly believe this approach will improve a symptomatic woman’s quality of life.

The “pellet” concept is not new. There are a number of compounding pharmacies that make the "bioidentical" hormone pellet. We have chosen to partner with the one company that we believe makes the best quality pellet. BioTE Medical has demonstrated to us that their quality control and support is second to none.

Does my insurance cover these services?

Based on your symptoms, your insurance will probably cover the basic office visit consults and labs.  We will file with your insurance for those services but may collect deductibles based on our contracted rate with your insurance at the appointment.   Services related directly to the "pelleting" procedure will not be billed to your insurance and are paid at the time of service.  We do accept
Care Credit for services not covered by a patient's insurance.  Care Credit cannot be used to pay co-pays, deductibles, or co-insurance.  Many of our patients use their Healthcare Savings Accounts, Flex Spending, VISA, Mastercard, or Discover.  We do not accept checks.

How much does it cost for the pelleting procedure?

In addition to the initial consult, pre-pellet lab review office visit, and minimal office visit for pelleting encounter, the cost for pellets will be comparable to the price of compounded creams.  A "post pellet" encounter is required which will involve an office visit and labs.  This office visit will be used to adjust the follow on pellet dosing.  Once the patient is established on the correct dosage, pelleting is done every three or four months which includes an office visit to see how you are doing.   Additional encounters may be required based on patient needs.
